It’s been over 10 years since I made art in a shop. Things are so much easier when you have all the tools at your disposal in college. I moved to Hawaii after I graduated, time went by, I played music a lot instead. Little by little, things started to come together. I got a tool here or there, took a welding class at the community college so I could weld stick, got a buzz box, and then an offer to be in an art show. Presto! I had to make what I could with what I had, which is always a recipe for success in creativity.
I went to the dump on a regular basis, building up a pile of scrap. Built a forge out of a brake drum. Bought a map torch since I couldn’t afford an oxy/acetylene setup. After working in the garage for over a year now, I’ve gotten my own special groove with my tools and with myself. I know how much energy I have to get certain things done. I create my own flow where I’m usually always working on more than one thing at a time. I love it! The process to me is a big part of why I do this, and this blog will be devoted a lot to showing how I work through pieces. Writing is useful to me in working out what I’ve done and where I’m going. Cheers!
